Vines And Pines 8-17-15

Defensive Play Of The Week

We are going to kick things off with the defensive play of the week right away, just because of how spectacular it is. The Nationals had a rough time in San Francisco, and this was quite the highlight. Two athletic plays in one, and this could of been disastrous.

David Ortiz Bringing Some Fantasy Value

David Ortiz is likely headed for another 30 HR and 100 RBI season, but the ups and downs have been troubling. He is absolutely cruising in the second half, hitting .356 with a .366 ISO. One thing has changed, he is now hitting left-handed pitching like he always did. The Sox put up major offense this weekend against Seattle, and sorry to all you Felix Hernandez owners.

Your Weekly Kershaw Filth

Clayton Kershaw struggled against the Pirates, but bounced back to his usual ways against the Nationals. He has a 0.92 ERA in the second half, and was giving Greinke a run for his money with the battle of the scoreless starts. In two starts against Washington this season, Kershaw has thrown 22 strikeouts, over 16 scoreless innings. Maybe the third time is the charm?

Pitchers Who Rake

Zack Greinke and Madison Bumgarner both homered on Sunday, and Bumgarner is hitting .245 with four homers on the season. Greinke has two homers on the year. Bumgarner has more homers than a lot of notable players, Yadier Molina, Nick Markakis, and plenty of leadoff men, but we don’t expect too much power out of them anyway. Either way these guys might be due for a shift in the lineup.

Iwakuma No-No

It was a bad week for Felix Hernandez, but a great week for Hisashi Iwakuma, who threw a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles. It has not been the greatest fantasy season for Iwakuma owners, but this was nice heading into the home stretch.
