Another no-hitter in the books this week, as Cole Hamels upped his trade value against the Chicago Cubs. A-Rod turned back the clock this week, and Greinke finally gave up an earned run. We have been on hug-watch this week, as tons of names are flying around the rumor mill, and some are already on their way out. Johnny Cueto and Scott Kazmir were the early birds, Kazmir going to the Astros and Cueto to the Royals.
Cole Hamels No-No
After two big blowups in the last two starts, Hamels regained his old form. He struck out 13 Cubbies, and allowed zero hits. This is expected to be Hamels last start in a Phillies uniform, so it is pretty memorable to think about. Whether he lands with the Yankees, or whatever playoff team making a push for him, we will be backed by better offense going forward. Now Hamels can pick up some wins!
A Little More Of This Would Be Nice
The Red Sox were projected to be one of the best offenses in baseball. This is now a laughable statement, as they rank 21st in wRC+ and ISO. Xander Bogaerts has been a bright spot this season, but outside of the average, he has not hit for a ton of power. Ortiz, Sandoval, and Ramirez have all underperformed greatly, while Pedroia and Betts have been slightly above-average.
Clayton Kershaw Fantasy King
The second half is here and so is dominant Clayton Kershaw. He has 38 strikeouts in the last 26 innings, and has not allowed a run in that span either. Kershaw has been good all year, but damn the fantasy world and their high standards.
3 HR For A-Rod
Washed up, I don’t think so, he is on pace for almost 40 homers this season, and as a matter of fact he will be turning 40 in a few days. Rodriguez crushed three homers against the Twins on Saturday night, carrying the team to a victory. He had 4 RBI, and is putting together a season like the old days.
We Love The Defense
It is that time again to give the defensive players some love, and how about this flip from Brandon Phillips for the force out. This duo made one sexy play here, and Phillips knew it after he got the out.
