Two-Start Pitcher Preview: 5-3-15

It is a great week for fantasy owners who have stock in those top aces, most of them have two starts this week. Clayton Kershaw, Madison Bumgarner, and Felix Hernandez all will be throwing twice, while there are a ton of tier two plays going as well. There are a couple not listed below, like Trevor May, Bud Norris, Jeremy Guthrie, Clay Buchholz, and Wandy Rodriguez., if they are owned anywhere, I highly recommend not starting them.

Rundown

The aces up top are always must start guys, although I wouldn’t blame you sitting Zack Greinke in Coors. Clayton Kershaw’s strikeout potential gives him leeway if he allows a few earned runs. That is the only downside to their two-start week. Felix Hernandez, and Madison Bumgarner have some great matchups this week, start them as usual. Your ERA leader, Dallas Keuchel, has another two starts in his favor. The matchup against Texas is not a threat to him, and the Angels are not scaring many right now. Those tier two pitchers have great matchups this week, I am loving Carlos Martinez, Garrett Richards, and Andrew Cashner this week as fantasy studs. Jordan Zimmermann and Tyson Ross have not been living up to potential, but this week looks like a good one for them to get back on track. Those are all guys that you probably don’t need me telling you to start, but just a quick rundown. There are a few guys going this week that I would only have them make one of their two starts. Josh Collmenter is one, make sure he hits the bench for today’s game in Colorado, the start against San Diego is fine. Alex Wood is another, start him against Philly, in Washington I am leaning on putting him on the bench. Drew Smyly against Boston is a sit for me, but fire him up when he is back at home against Texas. The rest of the guys are worth the risk, or fine to make both starts. R.A. Dickey, Jeff Samardzija, and Shane Greene are three guys I am not high on for any of their starts.
