Two-Start Pitcher Preview: 5-11-15

Just like last week, we have a lot of great arms making two starts this week. Chris Archer, Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, and Gerrit Cole are some highlight names. One of the Mets top prospects, Noah Syndergaard, is making two starts this week. Syndergaard was MLB’s #10 prospect coming into 2015. He faces the Cubs on the road, and the Brewers at home. He has a 1.82 ERA through five starts in the minors this season. He has had a K/9 higher than nine in his minor league career.

There are no starts where I am looking at an ace in this group and thinking about skipping a start. That usually only happens at Coors, which nobody is throwing there. If you are need of streamers, a few jump out at me this week for both starts. Alfredo Simon has a decent set of matchups, and although the Cardinals are not an ideal matchup, he gets a boost in park factor. He has a 3.29 ERA in 16 starts against the Cardinals, so he has held his own. Rick Porcello takes on two northwest teams, alongside his rotation partner, Justin Masterson. They are both pitching in top pitcher’s parks, and take on average offenses. There are a few pitchers on the caution list. Danny Duffy at Texas is one I will look to skip, Rangers are slowly turning it on after being a nice fantasy target for pitchers most of the season. Hitters are batting over .300 against Duffy this season, he has been in damage control most of this season. I have been riding the Chris Heston train this season, but these two matchups will let the fantasy world know if he is a real deal. This could be the week we see Nick Martinez come back down to earth. He takes on the Royals and the Indians, two of the better offenses he has faced this season. C.C. Sabathia is a no go against the Royals, alongside Ubaldo Jimenez in both his starts. Everyone else is good to go this week, and hopefully there aren’t any owners in these guys mentioned. Marco Estrada, Mark Buehrle, Wily Peralta, Sean O’Sullivan, Jordan Lyles, and Colby Lewis, they are all not pitchers I want throwing this week, or really at all this season.
