One of the day-to-day players before the break did not make it back, Dee Gordon hit the 15-day DL. Over the weekend back from the all-star break, injuries were limited. We are still missing out on some top players, but some are close to return. Steven Souza and Carl Crawford are due back this week.
Catcher
Yasmani Grandal is considered day-to-day with a sore jaw, and he came back clean for any other issues. He is not in the lineup on Monday, and could be out a few days. Miguel Montero is dealing with a sprained thumb, and this could cause him to miss some quality time. He could return sometime in August, meaning Kyle Schwarber would see plenty of time behind the dish. Travis d’Arnaud is likely going to be going through some rehab games this week, and can return sometime next week.
First Base
Ryan Zimmerman is the closest first baseman to return, he is beginning rehab games, and went 1-2 in three innings of work in his first game. He will likely be back by the end of the month. Chris Carter has been day-to-day with an ankle issue, but it is nothing serious. Miguel Cabrera is still on pace for a return in August, and is simply resting and undergoing therapy. Freddie Freeman had an MRI that revealed fluid in his wrist still, but team says he will begin to rehab soon.
Second Base
Chase Utley is the lone second baseman, and he is close to a return, and said the issue with his swing was cause by the ankle injury. Could we see a performing Utley the rest of the season?
Third Base
Just a few injuries on the hot corner, and the lengthy one is Josh Harrison. He is still recovering from the partially torn thumb ligament, and will be back towards the end of June. Even with talks of ramping up baseball activities, the return of David Wright still is without a timetable. Anthony Rendon will begin a rehab assignment, and will likely be back by the end of the month, without any setbacks. Miguel Sano was on crutches over the weekend with an ankle injury, but this is concerning for more than just a day-to-day matter. That is what he is listed as now, but continue to monitor that situation.
Shortstop
Jed Lowrie is taking batting practice, and will begin rehabbing soon.
Outfield
Giancarlo Stanton, George Springer, and Alex Gordon still have lengthy return dates in the outfield. Jayson Werth could be returning by the end of the month, or early August at the latest. He has started swinging a bat, and will need to rehab for a week or so before return. Good news for Corey Dickerson owners, he is beginning rehab assignments this week, and hold your breath hoping this is the last time.
Pitcher
A lot of arms returned over the last week, or are returning this week. Somewhat breaking news, Clay Buchholz is visiting Dr. James Andrews this week, so not good news there. It will be interesting to see what news surfaces over the next few days. Jesse Hahn will be sidelined for at least a month, and now is seeking a second opinion on his elbow. It has been a fad for Tommy John surgery for the A’s, so this could be an option. Francisco Liriano was scratched from his start this weekend, but just day-to-day with neck soreness. The lefty from St. Louis, Jaime Garcia, will rehab this Thursday and return to the rotation. Hopefully he can stay there, he looked good in his starts while healthy. Strasburg is still dealing with the oblique issue, but threw from flat ground this week. There is a chance he returns early August, but still nothing substantial right now for a return.
