Starling Marte avoided any lengthy time out, but some others were not as lucky, as Alex Gordon will be shelved until September. Some notable guys returning shortly after the all star break are Dustin Pedroia, Matt Holliday, and Martin Prado. Guys like Dee Gordon, Jason Hammel, David Ortiz, and Scott Kazmir were day-to-day guys coming into the break and will be back on Friday.

Catcher

Travis d'Arnaud just cannot let this position on the article go, he is still wearing a brace on his elbow, and is still without any clear timetable for a return.

First Base

After most of the season with small named first basemen on this list, things have ramped up. Miguel Cabrera has a timetable for an August return, and depending on how he responds to treatment, it will be either early or late August. Freddie Freeman has not been cleared for baseball activities, but is expected to return before the end of the month. Ryan Zimmerman has been closely replicating Dickerson this season, except on the field, but he will likely be back by the end of the month.

Second Base

With Dustin Pedroia ready to return after the break, Chase Utley is the only second baseman on the DL. Although the veteran middle infielder has been lackluster this season, he has begun to do fielding drills. He could return by the end of the month.

Third Base

Josh Harrison did have a partially torn ligament in his thumb, and his timetable is set for the end of August. This may push the Pirates to make a move before the deadline. Two NL East third basemen could return before the end of the month. David Wright has stepped up baseball activities, and is making a push to return to the Mets. Anthony Rendon is also taking batting practice and grounders. Both offenses need these bats in the lineup.

Shortstop

Jed Lowrie remains the lone shortstop, and he is out rehabbing as of now. He will likely return by the end of July.

Outfield

Alex Gordon was the biggest news over the week for outfielders, he suffered a grade two groin strain, and will be out until September. Steven Souza had a laceration on his hand, and expects to be back by the end of the week. Corey Dickerson has started moving towards baseball activities, he is a possibility to return by the end of July. Denard Span has back tightness and landed on the 15 day DL, this is likely just a rest and return type of injury. Giancarlo Stanton is still a few weeks away, and has been resting after his successful wrist surgery. George Springer on the other hand will be back in later August, he is dealing with a similar issue.

Pitcher

This is a pretty light injury report for pitchers thankfully. Jason Grilli was really the only major news to happen over the last week, as he will miss the remainder of the season. Clay Buchholz went down this week with a right flexor strain, and there is no ligament damage. Injury problems have been a problem in the past, so it is tough to tell how he will be going forward. His time table is still to be determined. Steven Matz, the Mets young lefty, has a late tear, and he will be shutdown for three weeks, and then be reexamined. For Stephen Strasburg, he can be available to return right after the all star break, but that is still in doubt. Williams said Stras has to be 100% before returning. If it is this quick, expect him to return to the Nats with no rehab start. A couple of Brewers and Giants arms will return within the next 7 days, Matt Garza, Wily Peralta, Tim Lincecum, and Tim Hudson.
