OFFICIAL: JOSE GUILLEN OUT FOR YEAR!

Postby Madison » Sun Sep 26, 2004 9:22 pm

Just heard about Jose Gullen of the Angels during the Sunday night game on ESPN. Suspended for the year and suspended from the post season without pay. Evidentally he threw a fit about being removed from last night's game and it continued into the clubhouse. Not real sure of the details and it was just announced on the game so I haven't found an article on it yet. I'll post one as soon as I find one.

Just a heads up. ;-)

Wow, so the team suspended him for the season? I smell a Milton Bradley-esque trade if he does something like this again. That much of a tirade just for being removed for a pinch runner!?!?! 8-o It was a bad decision IMO, since it was a tie game in the 8th, but come on - he must have done something REALLY bad.

To add insult to injury - er, suspension - Adam Riggs, whose replacing him in LF, and who started the season 2-for-20, is 2-for-2 while replacing Guillen. They aren't missing him yet, but they will be if they make the playoffs.

Front page of Rotoworld:

Jose Guillen - OF - ANA 10% Off Angels Tix Here

Angels suspended outfielder Jose Guillen for the rest of the season and the playoffs for inappropriate conduct following his removal from Saturday's game.
Guillen became animated after he was replaced by a pinch-runner Saturday, and things must have got very heated in the clubhouse after the game. The Angels are trying to suspend him without pay, so there's a good chance we'll see a grievance here. It also seems likely that the Angels will seek to trade him this winter. Guillen is in the middle of a two-year, $6 million contract with an option for 2006. Despite his attitude problems, the Angels will get decent value should they move him. With Guillen out, the team will probably use a platoon of Jeff DaVanon and Adam Riggs in left field for the rest of the season. Sep. 26 - 9:12 pm et

Hope everyone has a chance to see this before lineups are set for next week. :-o

Thanks for the update Mad, although it's not what I wanted to hear. I picked up Dejesus so hopefully he can keep up his decent play for the next week.

Yeah, I was listening to the game in the car when it was announced. Apparently he threw his helmet at the manager the started throwing bats etc. around the clubhouse. He came back to the ballpark today and did not apologize or anything. All this because he was removed for a pinch runner? What a headcase. He's played his last game for the Angels.
