question about DOUBLE = HR for young players

Postby logics » Sun Sep 12, 2004 10:47 am

when a young player hits for alot of doubles why do ppl think that this can equal power in the future? isnt some double hit to the corners and it isnt always hit to the gap?

It also depends what type of player you're talking about. If he's a smaller, speed guy then he probably just wants to slap the ball down the line and get on base.

On the other hand, if he's a bigger guy with less speed who's hitting a lot of doubles to the gaps, then he could gain a little extra pop over the years, resulting in more homeruns.
The odds of the AL MVP coming from the American League are looking pretty good.

whether its a gapper or down the line, you don't hit a double without making good solid contact and hitting the ball hard. with some added pop as they reach their prime it's safe to say some of those hard hit balls will be getting hit out.

It's not a perfect sign of future HR's, but it means you make good contact, and you can also tell better by actually seeing the player hit. If he's hitting them to the gaps.... that's a good thing. If he's hitting them down the lines and just legging out doubles because he's fast.... that doesn't mean much.
