Just out of curiosity ...

do we actually ever really leave the cafe?

For some of us, it is 'seared' into our memory ..

Savage, Instead of debating this offseason. I would love to help create a solid projection system, preferably one that can be updated on a regular basis. Ideally it could be used for everybody that help create it. But they would have to also help maintain it. My Excell knowledge is limited, but I have no problem inputting data.

Thoughts ?

Hehe, I spent most of the 2003 offseason gathering information to attempt to create my own sophisticated ranking system. Putting together a projection system would be right up my alley.

I am probably about where you are with Excel (or slightly behind). I have no problems with simple formulas, but there is a lot that I know I could learn.

Most of the mainstream systems seem to be backboned by three-year averages. In my ranking systems I like to follow a similar path and express my extended knowledge through standardized modifiers (such as "healthy recovery" for a player whose three-year averages may be tainted by a non-lingering injury) as well.

If we can devise a methodical approach that sounds innovative, I am willing to devote time to a ranking system.

Sounds like a plan - I'd be very interested in experimenting with different projection methods this offseason. ;-D

I'll be working on some projection stuff, too- using Re-Adjusted ERA, park effects, age, pitcher type for pitchers, and a couple of my own offensive models for each position player. Maybe I'll send in some of my stuff when I'm done with it. ;D
