Will Salomon Reign as next year's Pirates Closer?

Salomon Torres (P) Pit
Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon said Salomon Torres could get a look as the club's closer next season if Jose Mesa doesn't re-sign, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "Every year he gets better," McClendon said. "We don't know where it's going to end, and he's pretty damn good right now."

I think Mike Gonzalez would be a better option for the Pirates. He is young and already has shown that he can do the job.

But Gonzalez is the best lefty out of the pen...many managers prefer to use the lefty RP to face the other team's best lefty...like Marte in Chicago.

Personally, I think Mesa will be back in Pittsburgh and closing for one more year. Then, Torres will take over in 2006.
