Aug 31 The Twins aren't interested in Colorado catcher Charles Johnson, but the team still hopes to find help behind the plate before the trading deadline this evening—primarily because they don't expect Joe Mauer to catch any more this year. "I'm not at the point where I can say that we should count on Joe to catch," Twins GM Terry Ryan said in a published report. "I think it is unrealistic for us or me or anyone in this organization to worry about Joe going behind the plate. I don't want to push it."
Views: Henry Blanco has handled the bulk of the catching duties, with Matthew LeCroy filling in from time to time. Blanco is hitting around .200, while LeCroy is viewed as a defensive liability.
