What does Mulder's loss mean for Cy Young race?

Postby Twinskies » Sat Aug 14, 2004 1:31 am

Mulder had a very rough night against the lowly Royals tonight, giving up 7ER in 7IP....So with Santana still pitching lights-out lately does this mean that the two are just about equal now in the Cy Young race? Who do you see finishing stronger down the stretch and eventually winning the award?
This field, this game, it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh people will come Ray, people will most definitely come.

there not equal, Santana has been kicking mulder's ass for the last 2 months.

Mulder ERA has been rising and rising while Santana's has been going the other way.

imo mulder isnt even top three in the cy race rite now w/ a 3.75 ERA

if he puts together a strong finish and santana cools off then they will maybe be equal again.

Right now its johan and then everyone else

I concur, Johan has to be the front runner right now. He is just plain dominant. He's as close as automatic as you can get, as long as Minny gives him like 3 runs, he's gonna keep piling up the K's and W's ;-D I'm so glad I drafted him

Imagine how his stats would look if he just had an average April and May and not have a 5.00+ ERA, holy moley :-°

Johan will win the Cy Young (barring a catastrophic breakdown). Schilling has an outside chance but only if the Red Sox can somehow dethrone the Yankees in the division (no way). Mulder, IMO, is not in the picture anymore.

Wow, I didnt think that Mulder could be written off yet...as much as I believe that Santana is the better pitcher, I still can't believe that Mulder is already out of the race. If anything i would say he's a close second, but its very encouraging to hear everyone backing Johan ;-D

I admit that Johan and Mulder are the front runners for the Cy Young....but just to throw out another guy nobody is thinking about...Kenny Rogers...gotta give a little thought to him... :-?

If any Ranger pitcher had a shot, I'd say it's Drese. Unfortunately, Drese only has 9 wins. Everything else looks good (3.37 era, 1.27 whip), but unless he gets a big win streak, I don't believe a Cy will be in any Ranger's future this year.

Rogers has 13 wins, but his numbers just aren't very good (4.60 era, 1.43 whip).

I'd go with Drese over Rogers. B-)
