A-Rod - Varitek suspensions handed out

Here is how it happened:

-Arroyo hits A-Rod.
-A-Rod overreacts and mouths off to Arroyo WHILE walking to first base.
-Varitek follows A-Rod down the line to prevent him from charging the mound (completely OK).
-Varitek says something to A-Rod that obviously pisses him off.
-A-Rod focuses on Varitek and starts swearing at him.
-Varitek loses his cool and goes after A-Rod.

While A-Rod overreacted, he's not to blame. Players yell at eachother all the time. They don't get suspended. Varitek is the one that lost his cool and started a phsyical altercation. Here's how the suspending should have went:

Varitek- 4 Games
A-Rod- 2 Games
Sturtze- 4 Games
Arroyo- None
Ortiz- Fine
Nixon- Fine
Kapler- None
Lofton- I'd have to see what he did.

8-o . We almost agree on the suspensions!! I think ARod should get 3 games, and I don't think Ortiz should be fined.

Super.......Why are you calling out Yankee fans as being whiners here?? It does ring of an elementary school argument but that's what happens when you have 20 or so different threads of this and that. I just saw a complete replay of the whole incident and this is what happened:

1. A-Rod got hit by Arroyo
2. As A-Rod was walking towards 1st, he was glaring and yelling out to Arroyo.
3. Varitek was walking quickly up the line and was in between the 2 (but closer to A-Rod).

This is where it gets dicey.

4. Varitek started jabbing at A-Rod. Since the camera angle was from behind Varitek, it is impossible to see anything other than that he was heated. We will never know what was said unless Varitek decides to truthfully say what he said. You could see his head bobbing, indication some unpleasantries.
5. A-Rod responded to what Varitek said with what has been written here hundreds of times.
6. A physical confrontation was started in which Varitek initiated it.

I have stated numerous times that they are both at fault but I believe that Varitek should have gotten at least 1 more game because he made it a physical confrontation rather than a verbal 1. I personally don't care what any of them said.

And you are ignoring that Varitek yelled at A-Rod FIRST. A-Rod's cursing at Varitek was a RESPONSE to Varitek yelling and cursing at him in the first place. The fault of the brawl is Varitek's, and his alone.

You have no idea whether or not Varitek said something first. That is 100% speculation on your part.

Yes I do. It is 0 % speculation and entirely fact that Varitek said something to A-Rod before A-Rod responded. Afterwards, A-Rod said Varitek said something first and Varitek also said that he said something to A-Rod.

Quite simply, Varitek should have gotten 5 games- his actions were more severe than other incidents that got 5 game suspensions earlier this year. A-Rod should receive 2 maximum.

From an unbiased viewpoint, I think the ARod and Varitek suspensions were correct. They were both equally in the wrong.

Alot of people seem to skip the fact that if ARod wouldn't have been such a baby and got upset that an ~80 mph curveball hit him, none of this would have started at all.

Personally I find it rather humorous that ARod probably wouldn't have mouthed off to the pitcher if the Yankees were playing any other opponent. The fact that he's experienced the New York-Boston rivalry a whopping 11 previous games doesn't help his case.
