Which pitchers would you take over Beckett?

Postby TownDrunk » Thu Jul 22, 2004 4:45 pm

Which young pitchers would you rather have over Beckett? I'm in a keeper league and I currently have Beckett locked up long term. I'm thinking about moving him to fill some holes on my roster. I'd like to hear some of your opinions on which young pitchers you'd rather have.

Thanks!

Well, I think that Russ Ortiz would be a nice, durable choice, don't you? ;-) :-D

I would lean toward Johan Santana and Ben Sheets over Beckett.

Hey short,

Santana isnt an option for me, considering I already have him on my team along with Beckett ;-D

Nice. Who else are you considering? And what kind of upgrade/downgrade are you willing to go with?

Oliver Perez is a great keeper too ;-D .

Prior
C. Zambrano
Sheets
Ol. Perez

Losing Beckett in a keeper, you could probably get more than these guys (except for Prior) in a deal for Beckett. IE they'd give Zambrano + another for Beckett.

Also, what are the holes in your roster?

I'd continue to watch:

Kris Benson
Oliver Perez
Kerry Wood - I don't know if he counts as young, but definitely watch him.
Cliff Lee - He is probably having a better season than he should, but he's still a very good pitcher.
Johan Santana - obvious, but you stated you already have him.
Jason Schmidt - another obvious choice.
Ben Sheets
Mark Buehrle
Roy Oswalt

I guess I'm saying I never really thought Beckett was going to be the stud everyone else thinks he'll be. I think he'll be good but I think there are a ton of options and quite a few of them will come cheaper. Some come at a premium however.
