Matt Herges - HE GONE !!!!

Postby jbones733 » Thu Jul 22, 2004 8:06 am

& about time
from rotoworld :

Manager Felipe Alou indicated that Matt Herges is no longer his primary closer.
When Alou makes out his lineup card and writes down the options available out of the bullpen each night, he lists his closer last. Last night, ''I put everybody next to each other (in a row),'' he said. Alou stopped short of saying he was going with a committee, instead calling it closer-by-circumstance. ''[Herges] carried us the first half,'' the manager said. ''I don't see the same fastball, or the same command of it. Matty right now is not throwing the ball well. He could be a little tired, but I don't see the ball leaving his hands with much life.'' Felix Rodriguez, Jim Brower, and Jason Christiansen could see opportunities over the next week, but GM Brian Sabean is expected to trade for an established closer

Any reason to pick up any of these guys though? I actually have Eyre in my league where it counts holds because he was getting a bunch recently.

Probably have to wait and see who shines for Alou, and grab that person. Too early to tell right now as a committee seems to be the only choice.

Glad I cut Herges for Wickman. Just couldn't keep taking the era/whip abuse. Hopefully, Wickman will be better. :-o

thanks for the heads up, will definitely have to keep an eye on potential "domino effect" bullpens, particularly the closer heirs in seatlle and detroit.

I would not bother with trying to pick up any Giants' reliever (besides Brower in NL-only leagues) right now.

I thought that was fairly obvious when Herges came into the game in the 7th last night.

At this point Robb Nen with his arm in a sling would be more effective than Herges. Hopefull the G-Men swing a trade for Urbina.

And Unit ... and Vernon Wells ... yeah I'm dreaming.

I wouldn't bother with Eyre or Christiansen or any of G-pen. Looks like closer by committee for the foreseeable future.
