Roberto Alomar for Maddux?

Postby Trippers » Wed Jul 10, 2002 7:59 pm

In my 4 X 4 League I'm loaded in pitching but lacking in speed. I could use some of Alomar's production as well. He's been struggling in the first half but seems to be getting hot. What do you think? Can I get more? 12 man League, currently 3rd overall but coming on strong. By the way we start (1) 2B and a middle infielder. I have Kent and Brian Roberts who I would dump. Thanks...

Here's my pitching staff:

You're indeed loaded with pitching, but I think I'd aim for a slightly higher return for Maddux, or possibly try to pick up a steals-only player for less. Roberts plus a lesser arm migth be able to snare you a Castillo-caliber player, for instance - looking into a deal of that nature might be worthwhile.

I think steals from the 2B or SS position is a great plus for a 5x5 league. Most OFers can give you power production similar to what a top notch or above the average 2B/SS can produce. Getting a guy at 2B or SS for steals like Castillo, Jeter, Vizquel, Rollins, etc. can do wonders for a team in a 5x5 league.

Having that said I think you want to stay away from Alomar this year. This looks like one of his off years. He had a couple of these thru out his career where things just dont get out of the slump. Try send someone else for Castillo or Durham.
