Trading for Randy Johnson

Postby goingDeep » Tue Jun 18, 2002 3:50 pm

Hi, Looking for some input in a blockbuster trade for Randy Johnson.

I'm offered Randy Johnson and John Olerud/Scott Hatteberg for
Shawn Green and John Smoltz.

Olerud and Hatteberg are of no use to me and might be dropped as I get guys coming off DL.

My team is loaded with hitting with exception of cather (Javy Lopez) and a slumping Bagwell. Also i got Zeile holding time at 3B while Nevin is on DL.

Green can be replaced when Manny returns from DL. My other closers are Urbina, Wickman, Izzy, and Escobar.

Currently I have over 20 saves lead, but I am worry about izzy and wickman's elbow problems and also talk of Escobar being traded.

BTW I am currently in 2nd. My starting pitching is lacking a true fantasy Ace. Wood, Kile, Wells, Beckett, Marquis, Sabathia.

What you guys think of this trade? Should I shop Green around for other guys such as Morris instead?

Wickman is pretty much healed. His velocity is back. Isringhausen is a concern, but Urbina should be fine. With a 20 save lead, this trade looks good.

Green is so streaky that he's frustrating to own. Johnson is back to old form after a month long struggle (even though he was still a top pitcher over the last month!).

I think I would go for it. Especially since you feel you don't need Green. Comparing Green for Morris to Green/Smoltz for Johnson, based on your team, I would go for Johnson. Morris is great, but he's no Unit.

Hi, goingDeep. I'm also in favor of accepting this trade, for the reasons timkell stated. You rotation is excellent, but an ace like Johnson is unbelievably valuable.

Losing Smoltz' saves will hurt, but if this puts you in a tight spot, you can still trade one of your current starters for a closer. I wouldn't let this one get away.
