In an effort to jumpstart the slumping Royals' offense, Kansas City manager Angel Berroa has promoted second baseman Desi Relaford to the leadoff spot while dropping shortstop Angel Berroa down to the eighth position in the order. "Right now we are just looking for production," Peña told the Kansas City Star. "We moved Berroa down so he can relax a little more. We moved Desi to the top of the order because he has been swinging the bat well lately, and he has been taking a lot of pitches."
Berroa, last year's American League Rookie of the Year, is hitting just .194 this season, including a dreadful .179 in May since returning from the injured list. Relaford isn't exactly tearing it up either. He's producing at a paltry .204 clip on the season and has just two hits in his last six games. The top spot in the Royals' offense—directly in front of Carlos Beltran, Mike Sweeney, and Juan Gonzalez—has great potential, so fantasy owners should keep an eye on whether either of these middle infielders can emerge.
