Kearns was eligible to come off the DL on Wednesday, but remains playing for the Bats.
Obviously, the Reds want to be careful with the 23-year-old, but based on what he saw during his short time in Louisville, LaRue believes Kearns is fully capable of contributing at the big-league level right now.
"Austin looks the best I've seen him all year," LaRue said. "It'd be great if they sent him out today. There's no doubt, after seeing him the last three or four days that we've been down there, that he's ready."
he's been eligible to come off the DL since wednesday. he's been hitting well for the louisville bats, most recent games:
2-4 (triple, run & rbi), yesterday
2-3 (hr, 2 rbi, 1 sb, 2 bb), 13th
1-5 (double), 11th
1-4 (1 rbi) 10th
"We've told Austin that there is no timetable," said Reds general manager Dan O'Brien. "We want to get him hitting like he's capable of hitting."
from espn fantasy:
STATUS: 15-Day DL SKINNY: Reds GM Dan O'Brien wouldn't commit to a Tuesday return for Kearns (forearm), the Dayton Daily News reports.
why do they keep pushing his return back? it was supposed to be wednesday of last week, then tuesday of this week, now it looks like even later...what's happening? he seems to be hitting down there, so--seems like they're trying to make a move. romano and pena are both out of options, so they would have to clear waivers to be sent down. something's going on...
