Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay leftfielder Eduardo Perez was carted off the field during Sunday's game in Anaheim after injuring his leg running the bases.
Perez led off the fifth inning with a blast to the center-field wall and, trying to stretch the hit into a double, he stumbled around second base and fell to the ground. He was tagged out and remained on the ground with his head in his hands.
Several coaches and trainers helped Perez onto a stretcher and into the cart before he was taken off the field to a standing ovation. Perez was then taken to an area hospital.
Perez, the 34-year-old son of Hall of Famer Tony Perez, was 1-for-2 in the game before leaving. Entering the game, he was batting .194 this season and .245 over 11 major league seasons with four teams.
