Mecir has a Mantei-esque ERA right now. I doubt they will let him close--no matter how shaky Rhodes is, Mecir is worse. They're probably just giving Rhodes the night off after his 34 pitch affair last night. Just a guess.

Good point, but it makes it a lot easier to give a guy a night off when he absolutely blew last night. I agree that Oakland's crop of prospective closers are less than promising, but let's face it--Rhodes is on very shaky ground right now.

whatever happens, I am glad I got rid of Rhodes in a trade last week that included me getting Izzy ;-D while Rhodes has blown up this week, Izzy has given me 2 saves and a win :-B

Yes, like a blessing from the heavens, Michael Kay has been missing for the past few games. I can only hope he came down with Ebola virus or was mauled by wild boars. Singleton/Murcer may not be the best but at least they have real baseball experience to reflect on. Kay has a really shallow bag of not-so-wity stuff to draw from and makes intelligent observations about the game at about the same frequency as my dog who watches the games with me.
