Phils and Fish disciplined

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Shortstop Alex Gonzalez of the Marlins and catcher Todd Pratt of the Phillies have been suspended for three games each and fined an undisclosed amount for fighting and inciting a bench-clearing brawl in a game at Citizens Bank Park on April 22.

Third baseman David Bell of the Phillies and pitcher Carl Pavano of the Marlins were each fined undisclosed amounts for their aggressive actions during the incident.

Pratt and Gonzalez were ejected for starting a melee in the second inning after Philadelphia pitcher Brett Myers threw a pitch that sailed over the head of Gonzalez.

After Florida's Mike Redmond homered in the second inning, Myers' next pitch almost hit Gonzalez, who took a step toward the mound and pointed at the pitcher.

Pratt quickly stepped in and exchanged words with Gonzalez. Both benches cleared as Pratt, in a boxing stance, threw several punches. Meanwhile, Pavano threw Bell to the ground.

Unless appealed, the suspensions are scheduled to begin Wednesday. If appealed, the suspensions will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
