Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Cincinnati Reds outfielder Austin Kearns broke a bone in his left wrist after being hit by a pitch on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Kearns was hit on the wrist by a pitch from Pirates' starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong in the second inning. He didn't leave the game until the Reds took the field in the bottom of the inning, being replaced by Ryan Freel in right field.
X-rays in Pittsburgh revealed the injury and Kearns will be headed back to Cincinnati to be evaluated further. The Reds travel to Milwaukee for a two- game set against the Brewers starting Tuesday.
Kearns is batting just .137 this season and is marred in a 2-for-23 slump. He has two homers, five RBI and seven runs scored.
