Hamilton for Gio

Postby Bardu » Thu Jul 13, 2017 10:09 am

5x5 Roto 9 teams

I'm currently sitting in second place but I have enjoyed first for the majority the last month. Earlier in the year I traded Stanton for DeGrom to bolster my pitching staff. Both that trade and this current trade would be with the team I am directly competing with for first place.

C Perez
1b Votto
2b M Gonzalez
SS Correa
3b J Turner
OF Bellinger
OF Dickerson
OF ???
Util Shaw
Bench Moustakas, L Morriosn
DL T Turner

SP Kershaw, DeGrom, Carrasco, Ray, Nelson
RP Holland, Allen
Bench Knebel, Gio, Teheran, Porcello, A Sanchez

I need another OF and I need SB to replace what I lost from Turner. I could pick Keon Broxton up off the waivers. Cody Allen has his job back, right? So Knebel could easily go. I have lots points to gain in ERA and WHIP and I feel like my pitching staff is fairly solidified now. Would You trade Gio for Hamilton or would you just pick up Broxton and keep Gio? How good is Gio? How much better is Hamilton than Broxton? Thanks WHIR

For pure sb's Hamilton is going to be much better, but of course he's a drain on the other categories. If you decide to go a different route, in a league so tiny I'd think there are free agent SP every week with at least as good of a chance to win as Porcello. Allen likely gets 90% of the save opportunities going forward but Knebel is a tough guy to drop. GIo likely doesn't have nearly as good a 2nd half as he did the first; if you need a bunch of sb's I'd make that trade

God no. G. Gonzalez is pitching great and Hamilton is nothing but a one trick pony. Add in the fact that trading with your top competition is usually a very bad idea. Add in the fact that if you are already buried in SBs, there is no point in damaging 4 other categories to try and catch up. Just pick up Broxton and be done with it imo.

I actually declined the trade. I picked up Souza (dropping Aaron Sanchez) rather than Broxton, Pham is also there. The owner has now counter offered Hamilton and Leake for Gio. I don't know that I'm going to do that either, but I don't think the deal is necessarily dead. I am not struggling in stolen bases, I have 7 of 9 points right now. I'd like to try to maintain that.

Well you certainly don't want his counter, and if you don't really need sb's in bunches you don't want Hamilton bogging down the rest of your stats. I'd consider adding Sanchez back after this Boston start. He has a fresh arm and a great schedule next week. Turner will be back and provide you with your sb's again later this year. I wouldn't trade with your main rival if I didn't have to

Yeah looks lie Sanchez is a huge bust this year. Time to cut bait and move on.
