I'm no good with the numerical ranking, but as far as production goes, you're more or less gonna get what you see. Projections have his BB% much lower than his current mark through 93 PA, and that's very possible; however it's really not far off from anywhere where he spent considerable time in the minors. Not a ton of speed or power, but the guy is batting leadoff, so there's plenty of potential to be an elite run scorer if he keeps his OBP up over .370. He could also start running more as well. In a redraft, I could see trying to sell high for a guy you have greater trust in, production-wise, going forward.

Just made a deal...

I send:
Julio Teheran (can be kept 1 more year)
Brian Dozier (can be kept 2 more years)

I receive:
Adrian Beltre (cannot be kept)
Jose Bautista (cannot be kept)
Jason Hammel (can be kept 2 more years)

Teheran has been a Top 5 SP in my league, and has the benefit of facing the Mets and Marlins, et al down the stretch (presumably, I haven't even double checked that), but I don't think Hammel is THAT much of a downgrade, potentially. Sure, Teheran is much safer, but that's why I get two top bats as well, whereas I think Dozier's ride has just about come to its end (1-for his last-24, hasn't hit a HR or stolen a base in some time). I also have Dee Gordon who I can slot in at 2B to replace his production, hopefully.

This also allows me to flip one of my now two 3B, Frazier or Beltre, to meet a need. Another team trying to make a run is sitting with Longoria as his 3B, has been bitching about him all year, and seems to be a great potential trade partner.

So, I gave up the best player in the deal, potentially (H2H Points with Start Limit makes SP very valuable), but I still think I can come out ahead here, if Hammel continues plugging.

I think Hammel is a little bit smoke and mirrors but I'd probably say that about any 31 year old Cubs pitcher who came out of no where to have career 1st half before he traded for prospects.

Can you keep Frazier or Beltre ?

I'd value them for the rest of this season as, hell make that for the future too:

Frazier
Beltre
Longoria

he said Beltre was a non keeper, and its a heck of time to buy low on Longoria.
I agree id keep Frazier for the rest of the season, but it also wouldn't be a horrible idea to trade him away if i could get a Kershaw or a Bumgarner type back for him.

I can keep Frazier, but Longoria is not keepable (nor would I be trying to trade for him -- I'd be looking to grab a SP like Shields (cannot be kept) or Zimmermann (can be kept 2 years), or a bat to help me like Alex Gordon (can be kept 2 years), or maybe a guy like Rizzo (can be kept 2 years).

RE: Hammel. I don't think he's sub-3 ERA good, but I also don't think this is entirely smoke and mirrors, either. He had stretches of pitching well with Baltimore, and that was when it was actually daunting to face the Sox, Yanks, and Rays. You can talk about his Swinging Strike Rate and all that business, but what I'm mostly intrigued by is that he just hasn't walked anyone this year. I have a serious soft spot for guys who keep their BB/9 around or under 2. Yes, he's benefiting from a low BABIP, but if he can be a 3.35 ERA or under guy for the rest of the way, and maintain his K-Rate, I think he's going to continue to pitch well. He's spent the rest of his career either pitching in a high firepower AL East, or as a member of the Rockies. You'd never think that landing with the Cubs would be your best pitching scenario in 8 years.

In your position I'd keep Frazier and move Beltre for any of those guys and if you get one of those arms then it won't make much difference if Hammel stutters a bit.
