I've really botched this week as well. Started Keuchel and Santana last night who combined for 8 points, and have sat Peralta and Hughes who combined for 42 points... Dug myself just a massive, massive hole.

That works for H2H maybe, but roto it's very beneficial to weed out the bad starts and obviously to stay under the innings limit. My threshold for benching SPs is dependant on the league and my roster. If I've had a ton of injuries and need every start I can get, I'll start borderline guys in pitcher's parks. If I have a healthy pitching staff and got a few useful guys off waivers that I wasn't counting on having when I drafted my team, then I'll be more likely to bench borderline matchups and potential blowups like a flyball pitcher in a HR-heavy park. For instance I have Colon on a couple teams and he's been money for me. 3.32 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 5.3 K/BB in a league that counts that stat, since I benched him for his games in Yankee Stadium and Coors Field. Extra roster spots are less valuable in roto so you can easily carry an extra starter or two and just sit the guys for the worst 10% of matchups. You can find cheap deals on good pitchers with a crappy home ballpark that you can start almost exclusively on the road, or mediocre pitchers with great home ballparks that you can start almost exclusively at home. In H2H this is a waste of roster spots so it's probably a poor strategy, since it's more a game of quantity than quality.
