I am curious to see everyones thoughts here. With Hamilton hitting the DL for the next 2 months and his abysmal season last year is he working his way into contention for the worst contract in recent history?

I think you could argue Mark Teixeira here too yes?

Who else sticks out as some of the worst contracts?

Miggy's extension is right near the top, along with Ryan Howard. I'd say they are worse than the Pujols deal because they were years away from entering free agency when they were signed. But it's tough to top A-Rod's deal with the Yankees. So basically what I'm saying is, this Grantland list with Miggy tucked in between Howard and Pujols. Those are only current contracts, but with the inflation we've seen over the past decade, it's safe to say we're in the golden era of wasted money in MLB.

IMO it has to be Howard. Most of the others that I don't like I can at least twist my thinking to see how the team thought the contacts were good ideas but with Howard I can't.

Andre Ethier, extremely overrated OF who didnt need such an extension. Looks worse when you consider their surplus of OFs

I'm picking Ryan Howard here for now. Jason Bay was bad but Howard is getting paid literally double and also has done nothing throughout his contract. It was clearly indefensible when signed and just looks worse and worse every year. Teixeira's contract looks terrible but at least he had some good years with the Yankees.

Rodriguez was clearly an insane overpay but the Yankees were determined to keep him around while he was supposed to chase the all time records. I don't remember anymore but did anyone even throw out a legitimate offer at him? I just remember the original offer was like 5/150 then it somehow ballooned to 10/275. :-S
