2015 imports

Postby silverZ » Tue Apr 08, 2014 12:25 pm

Hey guys,

Does anyone know the top international talent coming over for the 2015 season? My dynasty league gets extremely deep and landing a guy like Darvish/Cespedes/etc a year early can provide a ton of value.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

Other than Maeda, there isn't a ton of impactful MLB talent poised to make the leap to the majors in Japan for 2015.

The Cuban defections are unpredictable but there have been rumors that Cuba would start letting some of their stars showcase their skills for other countries which might prompt more defections. Despaigne was loaned to a Mexican League team last season which bodes well to any loosening of the strings on Cuban talent coming to the US without changes to the US embargo.

I listed some top talents from both countries though other than Maeda, Gourriel, and Despaigne most aren't MLB ready. There are bound to be some releivers and role players make the leap though, especially from Japan.

Japan
Kenta Maeda
Shohei Otani
Tomohiro Anraku
Sho Nakata
Hideto Asamura

Cuba
Yulieski Gourriel
Alfredo Despaigne
Yoan Moncada

Interesting article from Yahoo's Jeff Passan about the risks of Cuban players...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/10-degrees ... 04407.html

It additionally lists...

Jose Fernandez (INF)
Yasmany Tomas (OF)
Vladimir Garcia (SP)
Norge Ruiz (SP)

as potential MLB talents currently playing in Cuba.

Great stuff, Havok. I knew it was difficult for Cubans to defect, but some of the things in that article... 8-o

I missed out on Maeda by one pick in my dynasty league to a guy that already owns Darvish, Iwakuma, and Tanaka at bargain prices. I couldn't justify picking any of the other players you listed over dark horse save candidates. Hopefully it works out for me. !+)

If eligible, I might gamble on Despaigne as a late round pick.

Here is another possibility as South Korean third baseman Jeong Choi becomes eligible to sign after this season.

Also, Daniel Carbonell, a super toolsy Cuban defector signed this week with the Giants. He's very raw at age 23 but he's very muscular 6'3ft/200lb (video below).
