4/2 Cheering, Venting, and big Papa Grande to the rescue!

Postby Izenhart » Wed Apr 02, 2014 9:37 am

The first few games of the season have revealed the weak and walking wounded masquerading as capable bodies, and we are left with a slew of unexpected position players and closers. With Bobby Parnell possibly done for an extended period, Papa Grande Jose Valverde is back in his element, closing games once again for the hapless Mets. He's got a shot to be one of the more productive closers this year, the skill set is still there for a guy with over 1 K per IP in his career and who has lead the league in saves on three separate occasions. The ballpark he pitches in should play well to his style, and the move to NL will have him facing many hitters who have not seen him before. Don't underestimate closers on low scoring offenses, as they typically provide as many if not more save chances than big scoring clubs. He's my darkhorse pick to finish top 3 in saves if he can manage to retain the role all season long.

Brandon Moss in a double header, Kazmir starting along with spot starting Robbie Ross. My 2B position will drive me crazy all year long as I'll probably start the wrong guy between Brett Lawrie and Brad Miller most of the time (like yesterday! :,-( )

Bid $26 for Lindstrom last night. Next highest bid was $25. B-)

Here's to hoping he keeps the job all year. Somehow Valverde was already owned.

Dominican Mafia doesn't play around.

Absolutely thrilled with Alex Wood last night. After giving up a lead-off HR to Carlos Gomez, he was really good. 7 innings on under 100 pitches. Very exciting for Week 1. Because of the rain out, I get Kluber in the early game of today's double-header. I have my reservations, but I'll give him a shot, which will force me to sit Wood for his second start of the week @WSH. May come back to bite me, but we shall see.

Very excited to see if the Yankees can get the piss slapped out of them by the Astros again. Both NY rags featured the headline DISASTRO this morning. An excellent way to start my day. ;-D

Once again the Braves can only score off home runs. Win 1-0 and somehow get a gem out of Harang. And their fans wonder why they blow in the playoffs.

Kazmir had a great game. Really mixed his pitches and located his pitches well today. He was ahead in the count more times than not and induced a lot of weak contact (as well as a couple hard hit balls that were right to a defender for an out). His fastball sat between 89-92, which was a little lower than what I was hoping for. But it's not a cause for concern if he pitches the way he did today.
