Better value as a keeper

Postby PureLuck83 » Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:37 pm

I'm in a 12 team auction $260 5x5 League...We use OBP instead of AVG

I have to choose between 3 players for my final keeper selection at the price I drafted them at but need a little help determining which value is the best. I have:

Starling Marte for $1

Carlos Gomez for $11

Jacoby Ellsbury for $19

Who do you think I should keep based on those dollar figures?

Marte by an infinitesimal amount. You'll be able to get the other guys back easily.

Could use some advice: http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=467060

I'll bit, keep Gomez. I see regression in Marte. I am avoiding him. 30% K rate last half last yr and an unsustainable BABIP.

Even if that's the case JT, Marte still for a buck is way cheaper, would you rather have Carl Crawford Jr for a buck or a shaky keeper in Gomez who will put up maybe just a few more homers for way higher a price or Jacoby who has a bad and flukish risk.

Right. There is no argument that Gomez and Ellsbury are better players, but for $1 Marte is clearly the better keeper. In other words, the OP can get those first two guys back for nearly the same value. No chance getting Marte back for a buck.

I am curious why this thread got bumped imo. OP, care to elaborate what your hesitation is on committing to Marte?

I'd take Marte too for a $1. Gomez is a great bargain too. However, despite Marte's iffy plate discipline, he's a pretty good bet for 40 SB, double digit HR, and a shot at 100 runs. A repeat of last year still makes Marte a #1 type OF.

They're all decent price points, but 0% chance you'll get negative value from Marte. Even if he tanks/gets hurt/etc, it's only a $1 hit as opposed to an $11 or $19 hit. Play the value here.

FWIW, I would rank Ellsbury 2nd here, albeit it's very close. All 3 come in at great prices.
