Snake converting to Auction

Postby jtwins9 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:30 pm

I need some advice. I run a league, and we are switching from a snake to an auction. We currently have keepers, so things could get complicated.

I'm trying to figure out rules moving forward. I've read/heard options such as Keeper Salary Cap, Escalating Scales, Contracts, etc.

I am looking for simple, straightforward advice on how to implement a new system. Ideally, I would like each team to keep a max of 2-3 keepers (Right now it's 2), but increase what they pay for those keepers year by year.

Can someone please a) recommend a system & b) advise how current keepers could still be kept, but using the new system.

I made the switch last year, and what I did was take the projected values of players at the beginning of the 2012 season and the values of the players at the end of the 2012 season and averaged them together to convert. It wasn't the most ideal, but it worked. Teams used to be able to keep a player forever, so I had to account for that. The Trout owner got to keep him for $20 for instance, and Harper was kept for $10. Players who have been good for years didn't see much of a discount.

Owners didn't complain and overall were very happy, so I'd recommend doing that.
