I would just do the Choo deal for a closer, pass on this.

He rejected the Choo deal so I had to take this one. Freeman has similar numbers to Votto and Jansen is probably the top closer moving forward.

Did I make a mistake on this deal?

Not a bad trade for you. Freeman and Votto are pretty similar in terms of stats this season, and you could you a solid closer like Jansen, since Parnell is hurt.

Just to clarify, this is Kenley Jansen, possibly the #1 closer moving forward.

It's an alright deal, I don't think you did too badly. Freeman's still a good 1B to take over for Votto, and Jansen is piling up the saves with LAD. I think there may have been better options out there but all in all this dealt still leaves you in good shape, imo.

Still think moving Votto for this was a mistake (don't get me wrong Freeman is a good hitter and elite run producer....if he had a little more power I'd say this was a legit win for you...)

Still my point is Votto is a first round (late to early 2nd round talent) I would have moved him for a solid closer, solid 1b and something else back in return (an upgrade to 2b)

Maybe a RIzzo, Kipnis, Reed or the like (Melancon, Uehara etc) type of package would have been nicer IMO.

Rizzo is actually a FA dropped yesterday. I lost E. Cabrera to suspension and then had to trade Cishek for Matt Carpenter and move Zobrist to SS. I have been trying to overpay for a closer for a couple weeks now with no luck and the trade deadline is this Sunday. Pitching and especially saves seems to be overvalued in this league. I was able to pick up Farquhar recently as well as Melancon a month ago, but then lost Parnell to injury. 2B is so thin this year no one will let go of a top one.
