Troy Tulowitzki is headed to the disabled list after an MRI on his right side revealed a broken rib.
Terrible news for the Rockies, who have faded after a hot start but are still in the thick of things in the NL West. Tulo has been dealing with rib soreness for a week and had to leave Thursday's game after aggravating the injury. He has had an MVP-caliber first half, batting .347/.413/.635 with 16 homers and 51 RBI. It's not clear how long Tulo will be sidelined, but Troy Renck of the Denver Post expects the absence to be "lengthy." Josh Rutledge will likely be called up to handle shortstop.
I haven't seen who is coming up, but have to imagine josh Rutledge.
EDIT: this is what rotoworld says about Rutledge.
Josh Rutledge is likely to be recalled to replace Troy Tulowitzki (rib) on the Rockies' roster.
Rutledge has batted .348/.438/.565 with two homers in 69 at-bats since his demotion to Triple-A Colorado Springs. He should see regular playing time and is worth scooping up in deeper mixed formats.
