The Cubs have suspended Ian Stewart 10 days for violating the "loyalty clause" in his contract.
The punishment was handed out after Stewart spouted off on Twitter about how unlikely he is to ever be called up from Triple-A. He has appealed the suspension. The Cubs have no intention of releasing Stewart, where they'd be on the hook for his $2 million salary, and are instead trying to negotiate an out in which Stewart becomes a free agent but doesn't receive his salary. Stewart still owns tremendous power potential, but is highly unlikely to make an impact in fantasy leagues this season
