Ian Stewart has been suspended indefinitely without pay.
Stewart went on a Twitter rant Monday night, questioning why the Cubs hadn't called him up yet from Triple-A Iowa
From The Chicago Tribune:
“We spent the entire morning dealing with an issue that doesn’t help us get better as an organization,” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said. “That’s not how we want to spend our time. What he did was really unprofessional and there are going to be consequences. Beyond that, I’m not going to comment.”
The Cubs suspended Milton Bradley for negative comments he made to the Daily Herald in September of 2009.
Stewart tweeted an apology Tuesday, saying, "I just want to apologize to the entire Cubs organization for my comments on twitter."
After going 1-for-3 with an RBI double Monday night at Triple-A Iowa, Stewart vented his frustration on Twitter, blaming Cubs manager Dale Sveum for his status and saying the organization is letting him “rot” and “might as well release me.”
Stewart’s late-night Twitter rant began when a fan tweeted him and asked if there was “any word when you’re heading back to Chicago.” Stewart replied: “Probably never.”
Stewart is hitting .164 at Iowa with a .279 on-base percentage, four home runs and 19 RBIs in 110 at-bats.
