Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres placed infielder Jeff Cirillo on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
The 34-year-old was injured last week on a bunt attempt during an exhibition game against Texas. Cirillo broke the tip of his right finger on the play.
Cirillo was acquired in an off-season trade with Seattle. Last year, he batted just .205 with two homers and 23 RBI in 87 games.
The Padres replaced Cirillo on the roster by purchasing the contract of pitcher Eddie Oropesa. The lefthander signed with the Padres as a minor league free agent before the season.
Oropesa pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning of Monday's season-opening 7-2 win over the Dodgers. The southpaw retired Los Angeles slugger Shawn Green on an infield popup to preserve San Diego's victory.
