Am I crazy for turning down Prince Fielder?

Postby jnormy » Mon Mar 11, 2013 5:50 pm

In a 20-team H2H dynasty league (standard cats plus holds and OPS), I am smack in the middle of a major youth movement of a pretty bad team I took over mid-season last year. Just got offered Prince Fielder and Edwin Jackson for Goldschmidt and Profar. After thinking about it for a few moments, and given my desire to build a dynasty through youth, I turned it down. I have high hopes for Goldy and am reluctant to give up the #1 prospect in baseball given my current team situation. But now I'm wondering if I should've grabbed Fielder, or at least countered with a better SP on his side (his top four are Gio, Gallardo, Morrow, and Lester).

My roster (listed below) is definitely built for the future. But am I crazy to turn down the Prince? All opinions welcome, thanks!

Not crazy, as you weren't going to win with Fielder on the roster. However, you may have been able to swing a decent package back for Fielder and scored a mid-range starter in Jackson. Truth is, Goldy and Profar are pretty nice to have on a rebuilding team, so even with a free Jackson and some new pieces from a Fielder trade you may not have gained all that much from a Fielder flip. I think you made a fine move given your motives.
