Jim Johnson as a keeper? WHIR 100%

Postby aqr135 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 2:13 pm

12-team H2H points league.
24 rounds in the draft.
Should I keep Jim Johnson?
Last year round 15, this year round 13.
Thanks. WHIR 100%

You get a couple round profit getting him round 13 compared to his ADP, but I don't usually like to keep closers (unless they are proven like papelbon or kimbrel) because they are so volatile and so easy to get during the year. JJ fits that 'volatile' description.

Any idea what the closer availability will be at the draft?

I'd pass on him, if there are no keeper rules that are forcing you to consider him.

That's no bad but what are your other options? It kind of depends on the rest of your team and your league's keeper rules.

If you are asking if Jim Johnson is worth a 13th round pick I would say yes.

I can keep anyone I drafted last season two rounds earlier than I drafted him.
Thus, I drafted Johnson in the 15th round last year and this year I would have him in the 13th.
All my other pitching options are definitely not good value. We can keep one hitter and one pitcher.
My hitter is Allen Craig in the 19th.

If you can only keep one hitter and one pitcher, I'd say you hang on to your best SP outside of the 10th round. As mentioned before, closers are volatile. Johnson could be out of a job by May.

Yeah, not bad value at all. I as well would like to see what your other options are. I would imagine there would be some decent starters to keep over him.

Help with mine?
