Pedroia for Longoria straight up

Postby UrbanatorNation » Thu Mar 07, 2013 12:50 pm

12-team keeper league, keeping 4 hitters. Current offensive keepers:

C
1B Adrian Gonzalez
2B
3B Miggy
SS
OF CarGo
OF
OF
OF
UTIL Longoria

I was offered Pedroia for Longoria straight up. Overall, they're being drafted about 5-6 spots apart. I draft last and would be looking at Kendrick, Espinosa, Walker as best on the board at 2B IF I took my 2B in the first round.

Is Pedroia a good enough value over the bottom tier 2B to deal Longoria? On the plus side, I now have a top 2-3 2B in a keeper league while still having Miggy at 3B. On the negative side, stats are stats and Longoria will hit 10-15 more HR and drive in 30-40 more. Pedroia has the edge in runs, SB, and avg.

Thanks, WHIR

Hmm...I think with no decent 2b available other than Walker I'd take the deal out of need. Longo will hit for a better avg this year...what OTHER 3b do you have now?

I really like Longoria but with Pedroia in the 3 spot for Boston and you already having Miggy, I think I'd take the trade. Those 2B options aren't too thrilling in the draft

The potential downside is that, although he's currently close to Peddy in the rankings, Longo could end up being considerably undervalued at that spot by the end of the season. If you don't think you can get a guy like Kipnis or Altuve on the cheap (not too bad a 2B in a 12-team league) then I guess I'd do the trade and hope Longo doesn't blow up this season.

Good luck.

I am with this. Pedroia makes more sense for your roster and gives you a little more flexibilty in the draft. Longoria is the higher upside guy and if healthy can be a top 10 player.

I would hesistantly click accept and hope Longoria doesn't stay healthy.

A healthy Longo is way better, I keep him.

I also think with keeping him those 2b are not that bad when Longo is raking. I could even see waiting later to draft a post hype sleeper like Ackley or an upside rookie like Gyorko. I just don't see giving up a potential top 10 player for position scarcity.

Kendrick could really bounce back, and a solid 2b could emerge somewhere.
