2013 CLOSERS THREAD

Re: 2013 CLOSERS THREAD (PRE-SEASON)

I'd prefer Russell. He's the better pitcher. I put a $5 bid on him and a $2 bid on Camp, on the off-chance that Russell screws up what I believe will be the next Cubs save opportunity.

This exact situation occured last year, only then Marmol was removed as closer.

Last year, Camp ended up getting more of the save opportunities.

Since then Russell has performed better.

If Sevum goes based on strict matchups, then Camp being the RHP has the edge.

I'd give the edge to Russell, but Camp should not be ignored.

Hanrahan came into the 9th in a tie game and walked the first two batters and was pulled.

Not a save situation..but gotta think Bailey could be the 9th inning guy soon.

I echo this, Hanrahan looks awful.

I gotta think Camp has the edge being a RHP. It's really gonna depend on when the lefties come up and what the situation is. In the game right now Russell was brought in to face Crawford and Blanco with the Cubs down one in the top of the 9th. Pretty sure it will be strictly a match up thing at this point.

Russell is put in a non-save situation. You'd think he wouldn't be if he was going to be the majority closer w/ Camp.

It's been three lousy outings in a row. Dude has both terrible control and atrocious control.

BTW before everyone freaks out, Casilla is getting the save opp today because Romo has thrown the last two days and has worked a lot to start out the season. The Giants have always been cautious about his workload and I would have expected this even if he hadn't blown the save yesterday.

Boston has a few quality arms back there, anyone else worth a look, or is Bailey the clear guy to grab?

I'd say Bailey is the clear grab. Tazawa has an outside shot, since he has been about as good as Bailey. They have said they don't want to use Uehara on back to back days, so he is not getting the job. Miller is the only lefty, so not him either.
