I'm not so sure.

Now they're back-pedaling and allowing for the possibility that Axford gets saves. Gotta love RW %-6

I picked up Axford a few days ago anticipating a K-Rod trade and also think Axford has a shot at regaining the role as he was close to doing so earlier in the year before K-Rod was picked up. Having said that, Henderson pitched the 9th while the Brewers were losing 2-6 tonight. Anything to read into this?

Also, thoughts on Brian Wilson potentially getting signed and put in position to close for a team in a few weeks? He supposedly looked good in a private workout for the Giants earlier this week and is throwing for other teams tomorrow.

He's basically in the same position as Valverde and K-Rod, earlier. So it definitely could happen. He wouldn't get the role straight off, but if he pitched well for a couple weeks, sure.

Picked up Strop a few days ago, but now replaced him with Axford. Very anxious to see which relievers get a shot at a closer gig due to the trade deadline. fingers crossed for axford

I think Axford only gets some saves to showcase him for a trade as well. Initial reports were they wouldn't trade another reliever but Melvin specified they are open to it.

Axford is making 4 million more than Henderson, so he is more likely to go.

Axford 4mill more can go the other way also and it might be the reason they keep him. I could see teams have a problem with the price tag since he hasnt been closing and obviously has had confidence issues as a closer.

The Brewers could always pay part of the remaining salary in a trade. I'd expect he'd be traded into a setup role if they move him, so I don't think the closer part will be very important.

Axford might very well be non-tendered, so it could make sense for the Brewers to pay most of the remaining salary just to get something in return (a relief prospect, say). Otoh, Henderson will be cheap for a couple more years.

Axford in the 8th. Looks like Henderson is closing at least for tonight.

Jason Grilli, strained flexor tendon. No surgery, but rotoworld is guessing 4-8 weeks. He'll be reevaluated in about 2 weeks.
