You don't think that the fact De Fratus has been god awful and has a 13.5% BB-rate will have any bearing on the Phillies' decision? I know without Papelbon and Adams they don't have much left, but I don't want to take my chances having my ERA/WHIP Marmolled while chasing a couple saves. Bastardo has been pretty bad too but he has a history of at least being decent, and doesn't have a big platoon split; he's equally effective vs L and R.

Good to see so many VERY strong opinions taking a complete 180 degree turn minutes later. I haven't seen this much flip-flopping since I came back from the beach.

On an unrelated note, I have no idea who in Detroit would get the closer role if something happened to Benoit, but I'd speculate it's not Rondon anytime soon. Maybe later in the season if he proves he can limit his walks for a while.

Johnson blows the save, 1st game on my team after I traded for him. Silver lining, It was against my Yankees.

yup.

that's number 6 on the season. he had 3 all of last season.

I don't know if the Orioles have anyone dramatically better to replace him, but do the Orioles maybe trade for a closer?

Tommy Hunter is the obvious option, though the team may not want to give up the multi-inning appearances he can give them. Darren O'Day could be a co-closer, though they couldn't feel comfortable using him against lefties in the ninth.

Nope. 3 of those BS came over a 5 day period. Johnson had converted 14 of his past 15 chances before today. His leash is still long.

But despite that, he's been really shaky. Even in his saves, he's been giving up runs and putting runners on base. The guy can't throw strikes anymore. One or 2 more bad appearances, and Hunter will get a shot.

His control has been terrible as of late, walking six batters and hitting one over his last four innings of work. When he does come into the zone, he's getting hit, with seven hits over that same span. With two blown saves and losses in his last four appearances and the Orioles in the thick of the playoff race, they're not going to feel too comfortable sending him out there unless he can get his control back in order, especially with quality guys like Hunter or possibly an O'Day/Matusz committee to act as viable replacements.

If he looks bad and blows another save in his next appearance, I would think they make a change. The Yankees and Rays are right there and Buck Showalter just can't afford to keep letting Johnson try to regain his stuff in high-leverage situations. I've picked up Hunter in multiple leagues, but I almost feel like the O'Day/Matusz combo is a better move for the team, especially with the expectation Johnson will be right back in there in a few weeks if he improves.
