I mean the A's would MUCH MUCH rather have Jaso than Morse, it isn't even close. Morse wouldn't start on the A's and would be probably their 5th best OF. If you look at this deal from lifetime WAR received in the trade the Mariners got the worst end of the deal almost for sure. They also got a player that is barely an upgrade over what they already had and they got him for just 1 year in a year that they can't hope to compete. This deal is just stupid for the Mariners.

The A's gave up prospects
the M's gave up Jaso
The Nats gave up Morse

A's - they gave up a lot for a platoon catcher with poor defense- D
M's - strange lateral move - C
Nats - great move since they didn't need Morse - A

A's got a B because they upgraded a big hole in their roster for prospects that aren't ready yet and they are hoping to compete this year.

Mariners get an F because they didn't gain anything from the trade and traded to a position that isn't going to help them and away from a position where they don't have a clear starter for now.

Nats get an A because Morse was useless to them since they have better options in the minors than he would have been.

The only reason the Mariners did this trade is because Jack Z's job is on the line so he couldn't afford to trade for prospects and he desperately needs to win more games. I'm guessing the hope is that Morse gives him that 3+ WAR year he had one time and that the C prospect comes up and hits right away.
