Gonzalez/Napoli/Buehrle for Rodney/Freeman/Johnson? WHIR!

Postby thirdeyez » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:48 pm

I'm newish to the forums, but I find the trade talk interesting and will definitely be happy to get involved in advising on other's posts. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

I thought this trade seemed really good at first, but now I'm second guessing myself. I'm in a H2H points league, I can post the breakdown at the end if anyone is curious. Here is the trade:

Adrian Gonzalez
Mike Napoli
Mark Buehrle

Fernando Rodney
Josh Johnson
Freddie Freeman

I'm currently leading my 12-team league and looking towards the playoffs. Here is my current lineup:

C: Jesus Montero
1B: Freddie Freeman
2B: Jason Kipnis
3B: Pablo Sandoval
SS: Hanley Ramirez
LF: Matt Joyce
CF: Melky Cabrera
RF: Trevor Plouffe
Util: Aramis Ramirez
Util: Kyle Seager
BN: Daniel Murphy
BN: Kelly Johnson
BN: Dayan Viciedo
DL: Jayson Werth
DL: Jacoby Ellsbury

SP: Josh Johnson
SP: Johnny Cueto
SP: Tommy Hanson
SP: Shaun Marcum
RP: Kenley Jansen
RP: Fernando Rodney
RP: Santiago Casilla
RP: Joe Nathan
P: Alfredo Aceves
P: Addison Reed
BN: Wandy Rodriquez
BN: Aaron Harang (Streaming Spot...might become Wandy instead)
BN: Brandon Beachy
DL: Jered Weaver

And here's the points breakdown:

Batters Stat Category Value
Runs (R) 2
Singles (1B) 1
Doubles (2B) 2
Triples (3B) 3
Home Runs (HR) 4
Runs Batted In (RBI) 2
Stolen Bases (SB) 2
Walks (BB) 1
Strikeouts (K) -1
Hitting for the Cycle (CYC) 10
Grand Slam Home Runs (SLAM) 1
Pitchers Stat Category Value
Pitching Appearances (APP) 1
Games Started (GS) 1
Innings Pitched (IP) 1
Wins (W) 7
Losses (L) -3
Complete Games (CG) 10
Shutouts (SHO) 10
Saves (SV) 7
Hits (H) -1
Runs (R) -2
Home Runs (HR) -1
Walks (BB) -1
Strikeouts (K) 2
Holds (HLD) 5
Quality Starts (QS) 5

Sorry if that's a little info overload, I'd appreciate comments even if you don't want to delve into all that. I liked the trade at first because it makes my infield lineup just ridiculous. I have faith Gonzalez will have a better 2nd half...and that Rodney will have a worse 2nd half. I don't trust Freeman to rebound anytime soon, what with the hand injury his manager says he'll just have to play through all season. I also feel like I have solid pitching depth to work with for a 12-team league.

However, it's worth noting again that this is points and not categories...I'm clearly stacked on saves, but it's not such a bad thing to be rostering 6 closers...losing Rodney still hurts me because of the points he provides, regardless of whether I have saves covered. Josh Johnson has also been pitching like an ace lately. I'm I giving up too much for too little?

Thoughts, comments, ideas? Tips for being a better poster or forum user? I'm also open to any general fantasy advice on number of bench spots to reserve for batters vs pitchers, etc :-D . Thanks!

I think this is a great deal for you. Losing JJ kind of hurts as you don't have a ton of SP depth but I think i would try and package one of your catchers and and maybe another closer or Ellsbury for another SP. But I think this is too good of a deal to pass up for AGon and Napoli.
