The Royals are expected to recall second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha.
The team is holding off on an announcement until he arrives from Sacramento, so if his flight runs into any delays, an official roster move may not happen until Friday. Giavotella, 24, is hitting .331/.408/.504 with five homers, 25 RBI and a .912 OPS over 152 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He'll be worth considering in deeper mixed leagues if he is given regular playing time at second base, but Chris Getz hasn't exactly played himself out of the job. The corresponding roster move isn't yet known, but Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star notes that left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has been dealing with biceps tendinitis.
this from CBS.
Royals recall 2B Giavotella: The Royals have decided to recall second baseman Johnny Giavotella on Wednesday and the infielder is expected to start against the Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium, reports the Kansas City Star. No corresponding roster move has yet been made. “He’s another right-handed bat,” general manager Dayton Moore said, “and we need another right-handed bat over the next several days with all of the left-handed pitchers we’re expecting to face.”
any idea what this means?
Chris Getz isn't bad at 2B. does Giavotella replace Getz full time if he can hit, or does this look like Giavotella is only coming up short term?
he has the potential. he has some power, speed, and hit well for AVG in the minors..
