After the first week, I currently reside in 4th place - 16.5 points behind first place, Harper. Not bad considering I have yet to start Nomar, Larry Walker, and Jeromy Burnitz. The teams doing better than me were not the ones I had feared going into this season. I like that. Posada, Rolen and Beckett have been carrying my team.
The Nomar situation seems to be working itself out pretty well. Adam Everett was great for the 3 games I started him in Houston. Right now, with Spivey, Lugo, and Womack manning my middle infield, I plan on starting the best 2 of the 3 for each day depending on matchups.
My outfield is struggling right now. Green hasn't done much. His surgery in the offseason was the same one Brian Giles had and Giles isn't doing a whole lot either. I am beginning to worry about that. I've been starting Salmon every game and Lawton when he faces righties. The stats they have provided have been pretty bad. I've benched Burnitz everyday and will finally start him on Monday in his debut at Coors field. The 2 homeruns Burnitz hit at Chavez Ravine help me feel confident that he will have a great year at Coors.
With a sparking 2.85 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP, my pitching has been terrific so far. Unfortunately, run support has been a major problem as I've only gotten the aid of 6 runs during the 5 starts I made this week. That resulted in getting only 1 win from my starting crew. It should pick up as I have starters from the Astros, Cubs, Marlins, Yankees, and the Red Sox. My 52 K's (thanks Beckett!) would be a league leading stat, but one of the teams pitched more innings than me and holds that category for now.
All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with my team's performance so far. The 2 categories I'm struggling in are OBP and Wins. I feel I'm very strong in these two categories and don't worry about them too much. Steals is going to be a problem all year. I hope to finish middle of the pack in steals. Tony Womack may see extended service until he cools off.
