Stephen Drew's 2011 season is missing presumed dead, following another home plate "incident" (think of the children!)
PHOENIX, July 20 (Reuters) - Arizona shortstop Stephen Drew(notes) and Milwaukee center fielder Carlos Gomez(notes) were both injured in the Brewers’ 5-2 victory on Wednesday.
Drew will likely need surgery after fracturing his right ankle while trying to score from second base. The 28-year-old caught his foot on Milwaukee catcher Jonathan Lucroy(notes) as he was tagged sliding into home plate and had to be helped off the field by trainers.
Wilson Betemit "freed" in a surprising fashion.....
The Tigers have acquired Wilson Betemit from the Royals for prospects Antonio Cruz and Julio Rodriguez,
And then (ZOMG)
The longest tenured Tiger may soon be suiting up for the Toledo Mud Hens. The Tigers designated Brandon Inge for assignment, according to MLB.com's Jason Beck (on Twitter). The veteran will accept an assignment to Triple-A, assuming he clears waivers, according to Beck.
Will Detroit use the same hypnosis that made Jhonny Peralta think it was 2005 again on Betemit? It's free to find out, so I'm buying.
On this day, 21 July:
1904: Louis Rigolly, a Frenchman, becomes the first man to break the 100 mph (161 km/h) barrier on land. He drove a 15-litre Gobron-Brille in Ostend, Belgium. He promptly surrenders afterwards.
1988: The New York Yankees traded a player to be named later, Rich Balabon (minors) and Jay Buhner to the Seattle Mariners for Ken Phelps. The New York Yankees sent Troy Evers (minors) (October 12, 1988) to the Seattle Mariners to complete the trade. A fleecing here, as Seattle got 307 HRs, and NYY got half a decent season from Phelps, then half a crappy season.
1899: Ernest Hemingway
1948: Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam
1974: Geoff Jenkins
1980: CC Sabathia
Obviously Cat/Yusuf gets a song today.........this one is my fav of his, and just for kicks this monster hit
