Moving Martin... which of these SPs to target? (WHIR!)

Postby GiantFanatic » Sun Jun 05, 2011 12:58 pm

Yahoo H2H, 12 teams, standard league.

Picked up Martin as security for McCann and am now sitting with the top two Catchers. Looking to capitalize on Martin's value and move him for some solid SP depth. However, having a hard time figuring out who I should target and what the top Catcher is actually worth.

There are four teams in our league that have catcher problems, each of which is listed below with their catching situation and available SPs. The pitchers in purple are the guys I'm looking at now.

C - R. Hernandez (Posada on bench)
SP - Lincecum, Norris, Myers, Hellickson, Drabek, Lilly, Garcia, J. Johnson (DL)

C - Suzuki
SP - Carpenter, Hanson, Lewis, Scherzer, Pineiro, Lohse

C - Buck (Mauer on DL)
SP - Price, Baker, Jimenez, Zambrano, Gallardo, Richard, Floyd, Arroyo, Nolasco

C - Soto, Iannetta
SP - Sanchez, Latos, Gonzalez, Chacin, Matusz, McClellan (DL)

As you can see I'm looking to try and get someone fairly elite/proven. However, I could trade for someone like a Josh Johnson of Jimenez and take a gamble for high value... The questions are which of these guys should I target and who can I get without overpaying, ideally by capitalizing on his need for a decent Catcher? My roster is below:

C - McCann
1B - Pujols
2B - Utley
3B - N. Walker
SS - Rollins
OF - A. Gordon, Sizemore, Hart
Util - L. Morrison
Bench - Martin, Zobrist, Gardner, JJ Hardy (sub for Rollins will drop to bring back Garza 6/6)

SP - Kershaw, Buchholz, Greinke
P - Cueto, Morrow, Bumgarner
RP - Bailey, Papelbon, Soria
DL - Garza

Thoughts? Leave a link and I'll reply in kind.

You might want to wait a week or two and see if Martin's bat heats up. Even with those catching situations, it might be hard for you to get maximum value for Martin the way he's been hitting lately.

I'd stay away from Ublado and Nolasco. I've got them both and they've been nothing but a pain. Just haven't gotten up the nerve to drop one of them. I can't see you prying Lincecum or Carpenter away for Martin. I would go after Hanson first, then Latos.
