Pre-Draft Interview with Archie Bradley

Postby fantasybaseballking » Fri May 27, 2011 5:37 pm

From The Fantasy Baseball King,

If one is doing an interview series with the upcoming draft’s top prospects, it’s impossible to leave out Archie Bradley. Backed by his huge frame, Bradley is a potential front-of-the-rotation starter sporting a mid-high 90′s fastball and a plus curve-ball with hard breaking action. The one drawback that may scare off some teams is his football commitment to Oklahoma. Like Zach Lee in 2010, Bradley is a top quarterback recruit, and potentially has a future as football pro as well. As such, despite being a top 5-10 talent, Bradley may slip a bit in drafts due to his potentially high signing bonus demands.

- Huge frame: 6’5″, 230 pounds lends to plenty of projection. Has all the physical attributes to be a future workhorse.
- Boasts a variety of fastballs, including a 2-seamer at 92-95 mph, and a 4-seamer that has been clocked as high as 101 mph
- Great, late moving curve ball with 12-6 action. Definitely a strong strikeout pitch.
- Immense baseball IQ, very smart kid and quick learner.

- Change-up is sometimes flat, and not deceptive enough. Sits at 82 mph.
- Current commitment to Oklahoma football have some scouts questioning his signability

When he’s on the mound, there’s very little to not like about Archie Bradley. He has real potential to become a front-of-the-rotation, workhorse starter who consistently racks up 200+ innings a year, while also striking out more than a batter per inning. Some question the competition he’s faced as a high school pitcher in Oklahoma, and wonder if his football passion will get in the way of him signing and reaching his baseball potential. That being said, if he does sign, the team that picks him will be getting a high-end pitcher who, for a high schooler, is extremely polished. There’s a lot to like here.
