Jered Weaver and BJ Upton for Braun? WHIR

Postby sixer03fan » Tue Apr 19, 2011 2:31 pm

EDIT: I accepted the trade - no need for more advice, but thanks!

Yo guys, here's the trade offer:

I get: Ryan Braun
I give away: Jered Weaver, BJ Upton

I'm very tempted to make this deal, even though I know it will leave me a little light on starting pitching... An offense of Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Kevin Youkilis, Ryan Braun, and Justin Upton makes me drool... We keep three players each year (have to keep at least one pitcher or batter) at the expense of a draft pick in the round they were taken the previous year. If I cut loose Weaver, I still have viable keeper options with Haren or Verlander, and obviously have a stacked deck to pick keepers from on offense. What do you think? Here's my lineup.

3 player keeper league, daily transactions
12 team, h2h. YAHOO league.
hits, runs, hr, rbi, avg, stls
wins, k's, era, whip, k/9, saves

c. Geovany Soto
1b. Miguel Cabrera
2b. Brian Roberts
3b. Kevin Youkilis
ss. Willie Bloomquist
of. Justin Upton
of. BJ Upton
of. Mike Stanton
u. Prince Fielder

sp. Justin Verlander
sp. Dan Haren
sp. Jered Weaver
sp. Jeremy Hellickson
sp. Wandy Rodriguez
sp. Ricky Nolasco
sp. Javier Vazquez

rp. Jonathon Broxton
rp. JJ Putz
rp. Brandon Lyon
rp. Aroldis Chapman

DL. Frank Francisco, Chris Young (SP)

Leave a link and I'll be sure to respond, thanks in advance!

Id do it, especiallly since bench depth is so shallow you can probably get someone else on offense to help you out. Pitching is deep this yr, you can find another pitcher if needed, and from the looks of it your pitching will still be nice in the K and W dept.

Generally I'd agree, but I think his pitching is in a lot of trouble behind Verlander and Haren. Nolasco, Hellickson, Vazquez, and Rodriguez are all very unreliable. If you can make a deal for another starting pitcher elsewhere, I'd pull the trigger on this deal.

Giving up Weaver sucks (I really think he has a decent shot at the Cy Young this year) but for Braun I'd pull the trigger.

You can always find SP on the waiver wire.

Yes, you have to do this. Your pitching will be fine. Verlander and Haren are your #1 and #2... that's plenty at the top of your roster. Do it.
